lordofthecats: (Snarf -- Teddy Bear)
[personal profile] lordofthecats
[Continued from Part 3]

The autopilot did its job, but as the ship entered the atmosphere, the last of the fuel cells gave out. Without a pilot at the controls, the ship crash-landed in rough terrain, breaking apart long before final impact and scattering its contents over a wide area. Luckily, the suspension capsules protected their occupants, but without the command from their damaged central computer, the capsules remained in sleep mode except for one. Snarf's capsule popped open on impact, waking him. He climbed out and immediately located Lion-o's capsule nearby.

"I knew I wasn't going to like this! Lion-o, wake up! Old Snarf is here to help you," said Snarf, scratching at the capsule until it opened.

Things seemed a bit fuzzy to Lion-o as he opened his eyes "What? What's going on? Are we there?" he asked sitting up and banging his head on the lid of the capsule. "Ow! Geez, I don't remember this suspension capsule being so small."

"Are you okay, Lion-o? I was so worried, snarf snarf," said Snarf.

"I'm okay, but wow, you're looking a lot smaller than I remember," said Lion-o, trying to stand up. He banged his head against the capsule lid again, winced in pain, and finally figured out a way to wriggle out of the capsule. The first thing he noticed was that his center of gravity seemed a little off. Then he looked at his hands and noticed something odd. "My hands! They're so big. How did that happen?" He was tall, just about as tall has his father had been, with the muscular build of an adult from the lion clan.

Snarf jogged over to him on all fours, carrying an old teddy bear in his mouth, which he dropped at Lion-o's feet. "Look what I found, Lion-o!" he said.

"Not now, Snarf! Can't you see that I'm too old for toys?" said Lion-o. Looking up at the sky, he noticed something. "Hey, look at that ship! Is it one of ours?"

Snarf followed his gaze. "No, it's the Mutants! They must have followed us. We need to hide, Lion-o!"

"Mutants? It sounds familiar, like I should remember…" Lion-o stood there, confused, while Snarf scampered off. He watched the Mutant ship land in a clearing below them and watched them from the rocky ledge. "Snarf, those Mutants are trying to destroy those capsules. There's something important about the capsules, though, but I can't remember what."

Snarf raced back to Lion-o, this time carrying the Sword of Omens. "Lion-o, the sword. I found it!"

"Not now, Snarf," said Lion-o. "We're in real trouble here! I don't need another toy. And stay quiet. You don't want the Mutants to hear us," he added, clasping a large hand over Snarf's mouth as the creature struggled to tell him something.

"Lion-o…"

"I said shush, Snarf!" Lion-o reminded him, but he realized the voice was a lot deeper than the snarf's. He turned around to see Jaga standing there, except that he could also see right through Jaga. "Is it really you, Jaga? You're still here with me?

"I will always be with you, Lion-o," said the spirit of Jaga, his voice echoing slightly. "Use the Sword of Omens, Lion-o. It will give you Sight Beyond Sight." With that, Jaga wrapped his cloak around himself and faded away.

Lion-o picked up the sword, feeling a familiar rush of energy. "Sight Beyond Sight," he repeated, holding the hilt up to his face, where the curved pieces widened to form eye-holes. "I see… the Thundercats! They're in those suspension capsules, still sleeping. But the Mutants will destroy them unless I do something!" He held the sword out above him. "Thunder… Thunder… Thundercats HO!" As he said those words, a beam of red light came out of the Eye of Thundera in the sword's hilt.

"Look, Lion-o!" said Snarf excitedly, pointing down at the clearing. "The Thundercats are waking up, and they're fighting back against the Mutants."

"We should help them. Come on, Snarf," said Lion-o, and he and Snarf ran to join the fight.
