[Continued from Part 4]
When the battle was over, the Thundercats regrouped near the wreckage of their ship and stared at Lion-o in amazement. "The suspension capsules do allow a small amount of aging, but in this case, I think 'small' isn't the right word," said Tygra. "How do you feel, Lion-o?"
"I feel perfectly fine, just a little confused," said Lion-o, speaking rather slowly. "Why did the Mutants attack us? And where are the rest of the Thunderans? Where is my father?"
"It's a long story, Lion-o. Let's start at the beginning," said Snarf, leading him away from the others.
Panthro motioned to the rest of the Thundercats to come closer. "Lion-o's capsule suffered some kind of failure during the journey. Thank Jaga that Lion-o even survived at all," he explained. "Physically, it looks like he's grown into adulthood, but he still has the brain of an adolescent. It's also clear that he's suffered some memory loss. He'll make a full recovery in time."
"Lord Lion-o spend the equivalent of ten galacto-years in that suspension capsule compared to the rest of us," added Tygra. "During that time, he grew up in size, but he did not grow up. He missed those first-hand life experiences through which one matures. We will need to watch out for him in this dangerous new world."
"In the meantime, we have other problems. The Mutants will never rest until they have the Eye of Thundera's powers for themselves," said Panthro.
"We need to salvage whatever we can from the ship and start work on building a new Cat's Lair for protection," said Tygra.
"I think I can salvage enough to build us a Thundertank as well," added Panthro.
"But what about Lion-o? How can we protect him until we have have some sort of defensive system in place?" asked Cheetara, looking very concerned.
"Hey, Lion-o and Snarf are coming back," whispered Wileykit, hushing the others.
"Guys, look what I found," said Lion-o, holding up his old cell phone from Fandom, which he found in the wreckage. "It still works! There's even a new message from Portalocity. I remember booking a portal through them before we left Thundera."
Tygra took the device and read the message. "They have a portal booked to take you back to Fandom High in time for the new semester," he said. "You know, I think this is a very good idea. As the new lord of the Thundercats, it's important that you continue your education despite our relocation to a new home world." He nodded at the rest of the Thundercats with the unspoken notion that sending Lion-o away might be the best thing for his safety, in case the Mutants returned.
"Are you sure?" asked Lion-o. "I mean, as lord of the Thundercats, my place is here with the rest of you."
"But Lion-o, your education was interrupted much too early," said Cheetara, placing a hand on the young man's shoulder. "There are things you can learn at that school that we'll never be able to teach you, especially considering how busy we'll be while constructing a new Cat's Lair."
"Jaga asked me to lead the Thundercats Council once he was gone, just as he led the council for your father," said Tygra. "I'm sure the others would agree with me that you should return to Fandom and continue to learn. The Thundercats have survived a lot, and we'll manage without you. In the long run, it will be worth it."
There were memories slowly coming back to Lion-o of sitting in a class, learning about mad kings and queens and vowing that he wouldn't rule like that when the time came. Maybe Tygra and Cheetara were right. Returning to Fandom and learning all that he could would only make him a stronger leader. "Then I will go," said Lion-o. "But I promise that I'll be back to help whenever I can."
[And it's done, zomg! Lion-o will be returning to Fandom tomorrow or Friday, depending on how crazy things are at work. Adapted from Thundercats episode 1, "Exodus." Parts one, two, three and four if you missed them. NFB, obviously, and OOC comments are love.]
