Room 310, Sunday night

It was a shame Snarf was still on his trip to the new Thunderan home world. Without anyone to supervise him, weetiny Lion-o was practicing his writing. He'd managed to write his name on all four walls of his room, stopping only when he ran out of surface area that he could reach.

But that was okay, because now he had more time to work on the blanket fort he was constructing between the two beds.

Momoko was bored! She was dragging Mr Bear with her as she wandered down the hall. Ooh! A door was open? "Hi?" She peaked in.

"Hi," said Lion-o, looking tentatively at the girl as if he was trying to decide if she was safe to let in. she might have cooties, after all.

"Oh, it's you." She remembered Lion-o! "Do you still think pink is stupid or are you nice again?"

"I guess pink is okay, but only if I don't have to wear it," said Lion-o, frowning. "Do you have cooties?"

"No, this is Mr. Bear." Momoko frowned and held up her bear. "Who's 'Cooties'?"

"They're not a who, they're a what, and girls are supposed to have them," said Lion-o. "But I don't really know what they are."

Momoko checked her pockets. "I have candy. Is that good enough?" She held up a handful of tootsie rolls. "Mr. Bear is a boy, so he doesn't have any."

Lion-o grinned. "Candy's good! You and Mr. Bear can stay and help me build my fort," he said.

"I'm not allowed to use tools," she said, dragging poor Mr. Bear into the room and setting him on the floor to watch. "But I can do other stuff! I'm good at helping!"

"There's no tools, just blankets. See?" said Lion-o, pointing. He had blankets draped over the edges of both beds, with pillows scattered around. "I'm trying to figure out how to make it bigger."

She clapped her hands. "Wow! That's a really good fort!" She peered underneath the blanket. "Bigger up or bigger across? It looks really fun!"

"Up! It keeps sinking in the middle," said Lion-o. "I think it needs something to keep it propped up. Maybe we could pull the nightstand over?"

Momoko posed. "I can do it! I'm super strong!" She pulled on the nightstand, dislodging things that were on it and generally making a mess. She stopped and looked over at Lion-o. "Whoops! Uhm, I'm sorry!"

"That's okay. They had to come off anyway," said Lion-o. "We don't need all that extra stuff for a blanket fort."

"Oh, ok!" She pushed the rest of the stuff off the table and dragged it the rest of the way to the edge of the fort. She wiped her forehead, as if there was sweat. "You'll have to help me lift it into the fort, now. I think I'm losing all my powers."

"I can help! I don't need powers," said Lion-o. He moved to the other side to push it into place.

Momoko gave a half-hearted pull to make sure he knew she was helping and then stepped back to examine their fort. "Yay! Now we have to try it out to see!" She clapped her hands, excitedly.

"Now this is what I call a fort!" said Lion-o, grinning. "It should definitely be safe from monsters."

"If it's for monsters, shouldn't it be on top of the beds? Don't monsters live under beds?"

"Uh uh! They live in the closet," said Lion-o. "Under the bed is where you hide candy."

"I keep my candy in a drawer. Why would you keep it under the bed? I didn't know monsters lived in the closet, too."

"Because... I don't know why. I've just always kept it there," said Lion-o.

"But if a monster decides to live under the bed, then he's gonna get all your candy!" Ah, the dilemmas of childhood.

"How would the monster get under the bed if I keep the closet door closed all the time?" asked Lion-o.

Momoko shrugged. "There's more than one monster, isn't there? What if this one doesn't like closets? Or what if it's a ghost!"

"There's... more than one monster?" asked Lion-o with a gulp.

"Nuh huh! There's lots!" She settled herself in the fort and counted on her fingers all the monsters she'd heard about. On TV, of course. "There's oni and kitsune and kappa and ghosts and tanuki and, and... a whole bunches of otherses! Some of them are good monsters though. And I think kappa only live in the water, so we should be safe from them. They have bowls on their heads!"

Lion-o just stared at her. "Your monsters all have really funny names," he said.

Momoko nodded. "That's so they won't be so scary when you talk abouts them." She reached into her pocket and handed him a tootsie roll. "But some monsters are good. Maybe only good monsters live under your bed and that's why they don't eat your candy?"

"That makes sense," said Lion-o, unwrapping the tootsie roll. "Besides, I've hid under the bed plenty of times and haven't seen any monsters. It's not scary under there at all."

"Then it probably is a good monster." Momoko had her own candy unwrapped in seconds and was chewing on it as she spoke.

"Sometimes good monsters fight bad monsters so it's good to have one! You should make sure you give it a thank you snack or something. But not the one in the closet."

"What do you think monsters like to eat?" asked Lion-o, though his words were garbled while he chewed on his tootsie roll.

That was a good question, and obviously required another piece of candy. She handed one to Lion-o and quickly set to her own.

"Well, it doesn't eat candy. So maybe real foods? Like milk or a san'wich? Those are yummy."

"Or milk and cookies?" said Lion-o. "I like cookies."

"Me too! I like cookies alots! Almost as much as cake! Do you think the monster will?"

"He should if he's a good monster!" insisted Lion-o. "Bad monsters probably eat yucky stuff."

"Ah! Like stinky socks and dirt!" Momoko was sure of this, yes. "You're right! Do you have any cookies?"

Lion-o wibbled. "I don't have any cookies," he said.

"It's okay, don't cry! The monster is a good one! He unnerstands!" Momoko leaned forward and tried to give Lion-o a hug.
